Good morning, skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
‘Media cuts persist amid ad market slowdown, AI fears’: Sara Fischer wrote for Axios Tuesday about cuts at the Tampa Bay Times, Axios and more, saying they “suggest the media industry’s struggle to regain the advertising and subscription momentum lost during the Biden era will persist for the foreseeable future.”
+ From Poynter: “Axios and Tampa Bay Times institute mass staff cuts”
‘The “lucky to be here” generation could learn a lot from Gen Z’: Monica Torres wrote for HuffPost about about how those who started their careers during “mass layoffs, a 2008 financial crisis or the trauma of a global pandemic” may feel grateful for even getting a job, but cautioned that this way of thinking could be harmful to their careers.
Here’s a snippet from her piece:
“The big problem with feeling like you are lucky to work at a certain company is how it disregards the personal effort and strategy it took for you to land that job, said career and leadership coach Phoebe Gavin.”
‘The 51st aims to replace DCist with something totally new’: James Salanga produced a Q&A for The Objective interviewing co-founders of The 51st about “building a worker-led newsroom cooperative, filling coverage gaps and D.C. pride.”
