Count down to the new year with the top resources from 2022
Happy (almost) New Year!
To countdown to 2023, I did a content analysis of the top readings and resources subscribers engaged with throughout 2022. Here’s the first five of 10 top items read by you and curated by me:
No. 10
📝 ‘Are there any resources to help guide my SEO journey?’ ACES, the American Copy Editors Society, hosted a Twitter chat in October with the fantastic Katie Vogel, director of SEO strategy at Hearst Newspapers and a colleague of mine. She shared some great advice, plus super helpful resources for folks who missed the chat.

📚 ‘Why and how journalists write books’: How does a journalist go about getting a book published? Amaris Castillo spoke with several journalists who were already authors or, as of July, had books coming out soon, plus “a few of the publishing professionals tied to their deals.”
“We set out to understand the kinds of stories the publishing industry is interested in from news media,” Castillo wrote. “The answer is both clear and opaque. And it depends on who you work with.”

🤷♀️ ‘You got the big job offer. What if you don’t want it?’: Wall Street Journal columnist Rachel Feintzeig wrote in August about how “you can say no to a new position or assignment, gracefully–and keep your options intact.”
No. 7
🙅♀️ ‘The new rules of quitting’: S. Mitra Kalita shared helpful dos and don’ts with Charter in January about how to tell people you're leaving, how much notice to give and how to navigate the last few days.
No. 6
👀 ‘If you’ve been laid off’: Upasna Gautam of CNN tweeted advice and a template in November to help those who’ve been laid off “stand out by succinctly defining your value to attract opportunities by using this template — it showcases your expertise to an audience that has five seconds to be convinced.”

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this year:
📆 ‘Two years of transformation’: This March edition of Katie Hawkins-Gaar’s newsletter, My Sweet Dumb Brain, helped me reflect and process what I’ve been through these past couple years. I hope it helped you too.
😱 ‘How to stop thinking about work at 3 a.m.’: This Harvard Business Review piece from 2019 has some helpful reminders about list making and self compassion that I needed to read.
👀 ‘Please wait for validation’: This cartoon from Nathan W. Pyle hits close to home.
