Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
💻 ‘How do I pitch a weekend editor?’ De Elizabeth of Teen Vogue tweeted some great advice for writers and journalists about freelance pitching to weekend editors.
She wrote that timely pitches can be sent her way, but “evergreens and less timely features are best sent to vertical editors directly. I do try and forward those when I receive them, but my inbox is often chaotic and I’d hate for your pitch to fall through the cracks.”
🧠 ‘Redesigning brainstorming for asynchronous participation’: Sisi Wei, co-executive director at OpenNews, wrote in detail for the Reynolds Journalism Institute about ways of “making effective meetings accessible to people not in the room.”
“I’ve learned over and over through working on the DEI Coalition that the more people you collaborate with, especially if they have different experiences and viewpoints, the better your collective work becomes,” she wrote.
📈 ‘Building passive revenue streams as a freelance writer’: Writers’ Co-op hosts Jenni Gritters and Wudan Yan will have an online seminar with entrepreneurs to “explore ways to make passive revenue -- ‘set it and forget it’ payments -- as a freelance creative.” The event is on Tuesday, September 21, and tickets are priced at $30.
📝 ‘Learn how Newsday and Spokesman-Review keep more subscribers’: The American Press Institute is hosting a webinar on September 28 where “two industry leaders will share ways they have revamped their retention strategies to reduce churn of digital subscribers.”

🐕 Pupdate on a very good boy: Sam’s starting to learn “sit,” and I’m so proud of him!
🥗 ‘Beet salad with walnuts’: I love making a variation of this recipe. I swap feta in for the goat cheese though and buy roasted beets from the store.
