‘What am I going to do with my life???’ and more important existential questions
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
🙌 ‘What am I going to do with my life???’: Millie Tran, who’s worked for The Texas Tribune, The New York Times, BuzzFeed and more, reshared this excellent slide deck she created about how she navigated her winding career path.
📱 Adriana Lacy’s ‘Instagram storyboarding’ template: I’m a big fan of shareable and adaptable organizational tools like this one that Adriana Lacy of Axios built for Instagram stories. She tweeted that her “template includes a general layout, links to downloading the fonts used on Instagram and more!”
♥️ ‘Some personal news’: Kristen Hare, Angela Fu and Amaris Castillo of Poynter are publishing a “new series on layoffs and the people who left news during the pandemic” that’s part disheartening and part inspiring. All of it pulls back the curtain on the way journalists have coped with the incredible toll of the past year.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
✨ ‘Need financial aid? A list of journalist funds’: The newsletter Missed Pitches put together a great roundup of relief funds for journalists. Check it out and subscribe if you haven’t already.
🎶 ‘What a bop’: Not gonna lie. I listened to this Lil Nas X - Bollywood mashup that Fiza Pirani shared on Twitter a mess of times while putting this newsletter together. (h/t to @pbad505 on TikTok)
🛁 ‘Any bath can be a bubble bath if you try hard enough’: WeRateDogs shared this clip of Golden Retrievers Dallas and Hank. Dallas is trying to snorkel. “Hank is his lifeguard,” the account tweeted. (h/t to @kylie_kruger on TikTok)
Will you support my work?
I’m always working to level-up my newsletter, including collecting job application advice from senior journalists at ProPublica, The Seattle Times and Technical.ly.
