Good morning, skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
💻 Sign up for a career fair: A career fair affiliated with publicmediajobs.org and the Knight Foundation is scheduled for March 31. Exhibitors include NPR, PBS, American Public Media Group and many local public media stations.
📝 ‘How any journalist can earn trust’: Poynter is offering a free self-directed course featuring instructors from Trusting News. Course attendees will “learn what news audiences don’t understand about how journalism works and look for opportunities to demonstrate credibility by explaining news processes, coverage goals and journalism ethics.”
✍️ ‘Covering the COVID-19 vaccine’: The Knight Center is offering a free, four-week online course that will teach students “how to improve their coverage of COVID-19 and the vaccines.”
Maryn McKenna, “an independent journalist who specializes in public health, global health and food policy,” will serve as the instructor.
📱 Excellent job application advice: P. Kim Bui of The Arizona Republic shared a Twitter thread filled with “things I have learned from taking a bunch of coaching calls with JOC job seekers.”
Thanks for reading!
Mandy
P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
👉 AAPI Journalists Therapy Relief Fund: If you’re able, please support the AAPI Journalists Therapy Relief Fund, created in partnership with AAJA. According to the GoFundMe page, it “will secure AAPI journalists with funding for mental wellness resources needed to process trauma resulting from both their work in the media industry and their daily lives.”
👉 More support for AAPI journalists: Rosalie Chan of Business Insider kicked off a thoughtful series of offers from journalists to sponsor student memberships to AAJA. I’m also able to sponsor student memberships. Please DM or email me if you’re interested.
👉 Stay informed: Follow AAJA on Twitter for more guides, insights and support for the AAPI community.
