👀 ‘A new NYC salary transparency law’: Angela Fu wrote for Poynter about a new law in New York City that may be able to help improve pay gaps in journalism through salary range disclosures. She writes:

“Because a large portion of the media industry is centered in New York — a 2019 Pew report found that 12% of American newsroom employees live in the city — the law could have ripple effects across the country.”

💻 Endings and beginnings at jobs: Celeste LeCompte, who’s starting a new role at WBEZ after years at ProPublica, kicked off an interesting thread asking, “What’s one thing [you wish] your predecessor had done for you when you started a new job — or something that someone did that you really appreciated?” Replies included helpful notes about documentation, Slack channels and more.

Phoebe Gavin, Executive Director of Talent and Development at Vox, started a thread about the first month of her new gig “giving you a window into what it’s like to start a job at @voxdotcom.” It’s pretty comprehensive! Definitely worth keeping tabs on.

⏰ Make a plan to back up your work: Alex Sujong Laughlin, a writer and audio producer, tweeted an important reminder, “this is your sign to start a work archive folder in your hard drive and save pdfs of all your published work AS THEY PUBLISH.”
