‘ChatGPT referrals to news sites are growing’: Sarah Perez wrote for TechCrunch that while ChatGPT referral traffic is increasing, it’s “not enough to counter the decline in clicks resulting from users increasingly getting their news directly from AI or AI-powered search results,” a report shows.
‘The 5 Ws of research’: Poynter is offering an on-demand course where attendees will “learn how to uncover public records and hard-to-find facts,” according to the course description. It’s free for another few weeks.

IRE posted in LinkedIn that it’s accepting applications for its freelance fellowship, which “are awarded to help independent journalists pursue investigative projects with impact, breadth and significance” and “range from $2,000 to $4,000.” Apply by September 29.
The USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism posted on JournalismJobs.com that it’s accepting applications for its 2025 Center for Health Journalism Data Fellowship, which offers five months of training and “a $2,000 stipend to defray reporting costs.” The program “offers journalists an opportunity to transform their reporting by training them to ‘interview the data’ as if it were a human source,” according to the post. Apply by July 22.
