💵 ‘Why now is a good time to ask for a raise’: In The Wall Street Journal, Julia Carpenter breaks down why now is the time to ask for a salary bump and outlines a few strategies for how to make the conversation go easier.
“It’s important to advocate for yourself and be adequately compensated for the world we’re living in,” a marketing account manager told Carpenter. “Don’t tell yourself ‘no’ — let the company tell you ‘no.’”
📍 ‘Hands-on mapping for journalists’: The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is hosting a Big Online Course (BOC) for $95 where students will “learn powerful mapping skills to apply to their reporting — making it easier to analyze geographical data and turn that data into maps for stories.”
The course, led by John Keefe, starts July 11 and runs through August 7.
📝 ‘The best $6,160 I ever spent: a US work visa’: Karen K. Ho wrote for Vox about her journey to “prove that I was an ‘alien of extraordinary ability’ — a relatively daunting task, to say the least.”
🎵 ‘The Writers' Co-op: The discovery call’: Check out Wudan Yan and Jenni Gritters’ latest podcast episode, in which they “run through how to weed clients out so you’re not wasting your precious, unpaid time to take these calls, plus how to best prepare for them.”

📺 A little ‘Fire Island’ in your summer: Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang were fantastic in this movie on Hulu. A definite must watch.
