A look at the hiring landscape and journalists' paths into publishing
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
💻 A look at the hiring landscape: Digiday published a piece saying, “while some publishers are slowing hiring plans, publishers like BuzzFeed, [Forbes, Bloomberg, Hearst] and The Washington Post are not.”
📚 ‘Why and how journalists write books’: How does a journalist go about getting a book published? Amaris Castillo spoke with several journalists who are already authors or have books coming out soon, plus “a few of the publishing professionals tied to their deals.”
“We set out to understand the kinds of stories the publishing industry is interested in from news media,” Castillo wrote. “The answer is both clear and opaque. And it depends on who you work with.”
📝 ‘300+ places to pitch with guidelines, rates and contact info’: Freelance writer Kaitlyn Arford wrote that she “gathered pitch guides and rate information for 300+ publications in this Trello board so you don’t have to! Whenever possible, each publication has a pitching guide and rate database linked to it.”
