Remembering a gifted multimedia storyteller and educator
Curt Chandler was the best professor I ever had. He was incredibly kind, patient and generous with his time â often staying up until all hours of the night with his students as we furiously tried to meet deadlines.
Curt died last week of pancreatic cancer. He was 64.
He introduced me to ONA, encouraging me and a classmate to apply to the student newsroom, then he drove us hundreds of miles to and from the conference (even if we got a little lost on the way home).
Curt was like that with everybody. He gave students shooting in the cold socks from his car to keep their hands from freezing. He helped with projects and technical questions long after you graduated. He opened doors and generously shared his vast network with you.
Curt instilled in me a love of online journalism. I know I wouldnât be where I am today without him, and Iâm so grateful for his mentorship over the years.
If youâd like to help honor his legacy, Curtâs family has established the Chandler Grant for Storytelling, a âfund intended to provide support for multimedia storytelling activities and programs, both domestic and abroad, for students.â
