Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
📝 ‘How explanatory journalism informs and engages audiences’: The Knight Center is hosting a free Massive Open Online Course where students will learn “techniques and formats for adding background and context to the news to help readers make sense of the daily outpouring of news, as well as to fight misinformation.”
The course runs from January 16 to February 12.
📊 ‘Media businesses are slowly getting less white, male-dominated’: Sara Guaglione wrote for Digiday about efforts at “media organizations to improve the diversity of their workforces.” This includes analyzing self-reported statistics at BuzzFeed, Condé Nast, NYT, NPR, WaPo, Vox Media and more.
💻 ‘How to be happier in your job in 2023’: Rachel Feintzeig wrote for The Wall Street Journal about ways to “shift your daily tasks toward what you enjoy — and change your perspective, too.”
👀 ‘Paid work isn't the only work that counts’: Crystal Shelley, a fiction editor and ACES board member, tweeted some solid reminders about all the extra work that goes into freelancing, including marketing, networking and more.
