'An elevator pitch for your job search,’ training to cover COVID-19 vaccines and a career fair
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
👀 ‘Yamiche Alcindor wants America to see its flaws’: Glamour published an excellent feature on Yamiche Alcindor, White House correspondent for PBS NewsHour, taking readers through her early career, her approach to covering the Trump administration, her professionalism and more.
Alcindor is as much of a zealot for journalism and what it can do as she was at 18. But with a caveat: “I’m a journalist who has been taught and who has practiced the idea that I’m here to tell the truth, not to just balance both sides, and I don’t believe in false equivalencies.”
💉 ‘Reporting on the COVID-19 vaccines’: Poynter is offering a webinar on Monday, Dec. 14, for journalists that will help them “prepare to cover the deployment of COVID-19 vaccines in your community.”
The course is tuition-free, but the organization suggests donating $15 when you enroll.
✨ ‘How — and why — to craft an elevator pitch for your job search’: Fast Company recently published a piece with five clear steps that “will enable you to craft a first-rate pitch that can be customized for each encounter.”
💻 Virtual career fair: I’m excited for this week’s virtual career fair! If you want to learn more about job opportunities at Hearst Connecticut Media, where I work, sign up and join us for an hour on Thursday at noon.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
📧 ‘What day is it?’ The Washington Post has a great 7-day email course to help you recover your sense of time, “fill your days with new experiences and stay connected with the world around you.” Check it out and sign up here.
🗞 ‘Top a present with a newsprint bow’: NYT shared a piece on how a newspaper can become “fanciful gift-toppers” with “some artful folding and a few snips of the scissors.”
🥜 No flour peanut butter cookies: I’ve been making variations of this peanut butter cookie recipe for years, and it’s super easy. Perfect for weeknights. And if you want to make it even better, put a Hershey’s Kiss on top right after they come out of the oven.
