💻 ‘2021 virtual news career fair’: McClatchy, which is “hiring for more than 150 newsroom jobs and internships,” according to their website, is hosting a career fair on Thursday, December 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. ET.

👀 ‘Journalism isn’t who you are. It’s what you do.’: Wudan Yan, journalist and co-host of The Writers’ Co-op, wrote for Poynter about how “making journalism part of our identities justifies the passion and purpose that brought us to the profession. It also makes us supremely exploitable.”

📝 ‘What J-Schools should teach about freelancing’: Andy Hirschfeld wrote for the International Journalists’ Network about how colleges and universities could better prepare students to navigate the business side of freelancing, pitching and how to brand oneself.

“You’re basically on your own, and you won’t get better at pitching until you get a ton of rejections and look at what you're doing wrong,” freelancer Meira Gebel told Hirschfeld. “The curriculum should include how to make money, and that includes pitch workshopping.” 

✍️ ‘How to write better personal essays’: Tim Herrera unlocked a panel playback from his Freelancing with Tim archives for a “discussion on writing — and selling — better personal essays.”
