đ» â2021 virtual news career fairâ: McClatchy, which is âhiring for more than 150 newsroom jobs and internships,â according to their website, is hosting a career fair on Thursday, December 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. ET.
đ âJournalism isnât who you are. Itâs what you do.â: Wudan Yan, journalist and co-host of The Writersâ Co-op, wrote for Poynter about how âmaking journalism part of our identities justifies the passion and purpose that brought us to the profession. It also makes us supremely exploitable.â
đ âWhat J-Schools should teach about freelancingâ: Andy Hirschfeld wrote for the International Journalistsâ Network about how colleges and universities could better prepare students to navigate the business side of freelancing, pitching and how to brand oneself.
âYouâre basically on your own, and you wonât get better at pitching until you get a ton of rejections and look at what you're doing wrong,â freelancer Meira Gebel told Hirschfeld. âThe curriculum should include how to make money, and that includes pitch workshopping.âÂ
âïž âHow to write better personal essaysâ: Tim Herrera unlocked a panel playback from his Freelancing with Tim archives for a âdiscussion on writing â and selling â better personal essays.â
