A different approach to freelancing and mentoring
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
👀 A different approach to freelancing: Freelance writer Zanny Merullo Steffgen posted on X about switching up her pitching strategy: “Instead of pitching the big-name publications that rarely respond, I’m focusing on niche outlets that pay well ($1/word+). I would rather be paid and get these important stories out there than have an impressive byline.”
Other freelancers chimed in that they’ve used similar strategies.
📝 ‘Six things running has taught me about writing’: Writer Jen A. Miller shared in her newsletter, Notes from a Hired Pen, how running helped her try different approaches with writing — including everything from taking a break to setting an interim goal to trying something different.
+ Also from Miller: Subscribe to her newsletter and check out her ebooks ($10 each) about freelance writing best practices
✨ ‘ONA is the new home of Digital Women Leaders’: The Online News Association recently announced it acquired Digital Women Leaders, “a mentorship resource for women and non-binary people aimed at addressing disparities in journalism leadership.”
