❓ ‘How do I know when it’s time to make a change?’ Katie Hawkins-Gaar, who runs the My Sweet Dumb Brain newsletter (which you should totally subscribe to btw), recently came back from a break and jumped into this weighty topic multiple readers wrote her about.
“For many of us, the pandemic has resulted in a lot of time to think. It’s given us time to experiment with new ways of living — with things like working from home, tightening our social circles, taking on new hobbies and doing less,” Hawkins-Gaar wrote. “The people who wrote to me have all had time to dabble in new things, mull over their life decisions and consider making big changes.”
🗞 ‘Few Black, Latinx students are editors of top college newspapers’: The student investigative team for AAJA Voices “collected exclusive data on race and pay from the country’s top college papers. They found that Black and Latinx students are often shut out of this important pipeline into the journalism industry,” according to their reporting.
📝 Tips for new freelancers: Meira Gebel, a freelance writer, tweeted, “freelance friends! I’m collecting advice: what is one tip you always give to freelancers who are just starting out? I have a few, but the most important (for me) is to never be afraid of the cold DM!”
Dozens replied with lots of great tips from scouring free and affordable resources to keeping a system to track your work to finding a support network.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
♥️ ‘That’s how I’m coming’: Naomi Osaka’s latest life update is so heartening and definitely something we all need to hear.
🐶 Meet Grizz: This doggo featured on @dog_rates “still loves his baby pool, even though he’s grown out of it. Please don’t judge.” Then @SWatercolour turned Grizz into art, and I can’t stop smiling.
