💵 ‘The pandemic hurt my 2021 raise. Will this affect my earning potential?’: Michelle Singletary, personal finance columnist with The Washington Post, answered one reader's question about how to navigate the raise conversation with your boss amid the pandemic.
“You need to be sure the lower amount is truly just about the pandemic. Or, maybe your boss used the current economic crisis to ease the pain of not giving you more money,” Singletary wrote.
🙌 ‘How small companies can offer great paid-leave programs’: Harvard Business Review published a piece full of stats on the benefits of paid parental leave, including several suggestions for how to navigate financial questions, workflow handoffs and communication with staff.
📝 News orgs track diversity among sources: The Reynolds Journalism Institute published a piece on how “tracking who actually shows up in the reporting is vital to the source diversity equation in journalism.”
“North Carolina Health News has inserted a question in the standard story template asking reporters to list their sources and identify them by race / ethnicity, age, gender, pronouns / gender identity, political party, geographic location, income and disability,” Melba Newsome, a 2020-2021 Reynolds Fellow, wrote.

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
🗞 Chaos at the Capitol: Last week was incredibly difficult for the country, but I’m heartened to see the great work splashed across a collection of front pages put together by Charles Apple.
📷 Where CT lawmakers were: My colleagues at Hearst Connecticut Media created this excellent visual essay showing where Connecticut lawmakers were on Wednesday and what they experienced.
🙏 Thank you: Kristen Hare of Poynter wrote a post titled “Journalists around the country are doing their damn jobs. You might be one of them. Thank you.”
