Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
🏠 ‘What mix of WFH and office time is right for you?’: This Harvard Business Review piece delivers on specific, actionable ways of “figuring out which days to spend at home, which days to spend at the office, and just as crucial, how to sell your boss on that plan.”
I’m a sucker for tracking spreadsheets, and this piece has an interesting proposal on how to keep tabs on both your work output and your overall mood in different environments.
📝 Free and low-cost training opportunities: I started a Twitter thread last week soliciting journalists’ favorite sources for trainings to sharpen their skills. In addition to go-to places such as Poynter and Journalism Courses by the Knight Center, you’ll find shout outs to the Lenfest News Philanthropy Network, Coursera and more.
📱 NPR’s Diverse Sources Database: Saeed Ahmed of NPR shared a resource that can help journalists “find experts from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in the media.” Follow @SourceOfTheWeek for updates and email sourceoftheweek(at)npr(dot)org if you want to contribute to the list.
Thanks for reading!
Mandy
P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
🧵 Crafting + journalism: Hannah Wise of McClatchy has these fun “journalism quote stitch kits” in her Etsy shop.
🤓 Nerding out on newsletters: Super thankful for the opportunity to speak about newsletters at Social Media Weekend. Check out some of the highlights on Twitter!
🎶 ‘An invitation to the cicada party’: I love this NYT interactive complete with cicada sounds, maps of where Brood X is set to emerge and more.
