An update to the internships and fellowships calendar
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
📅 An update to the internships and fellowships calendar: Thank you to everyone who reached out with additional paid opportunities. I’ve updated the calendar with multiple new roles for October, November and beyond.
Please feel free to share this newsletter and the calendar with anyone who could use it!
👀 ‘I’ve made $100,000 so far this year. What now?’: Freelance writer and author Jen A. Miller recently shared in her Notes from a Hired Pen newsletter about how she plans to re-evaluate how much she wants to earn in a year.
“Most of the people I have coached with freelancing don’t seek out to make six-figures, and don’t need to, whether because they only want to freelance part time, aren’t the sole source of income in their household and don’t need to, or just live in a place with a low cost of living,” Miller wrote.

📉 ‘Bolstering your stories with economic data’: The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) scheduled a virtual training for student and early-career journalists that “will cover tips and strategies on how to locate and navigate economic data, as well as how to bring those numbers to life in your stories.”
The panel, featuring Sarah Foster of Bankrate and Ana Hernández Kent of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, is set for October 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Thanks for reading!
Mandy
P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
💻 ‘The King’s Jester’: Finally caught up on some stand up I’ve been missing on Netflix this weekend, including Hasan Minhaj’s very open special about fatherhood and his love for his daughter.
🎃 Celebrating the spooky season: Also loved “Hocus Pocus 2,” which was a super fun follow up on a classic.
📝 Turkey chili: Prepped some lunches for the week with this NYT cooking recipe that took a lot less time than I thought.
