‘How callouts make you a better journalist’ and the importance of obituaries in local news

🗣 ‘How callouts make you a better journalist’: Bobby Blanchard of the Texas Tribune shared an excellent thread with specific examples on how to use callouts to connect with your audience and inform and strengthen reporting. He wrote:

This is the fundamental loop of Audience Engagement Journalism:

1. You ask your readers for help doing journalism.

2. Your readers answer your questions.

3. You use those answers to empower / inform your reporting.

4. You report back out to the community that helped you.

5. You hear how your audience responds to what you report back and use that to ask a new question. Start again. Repeat until we’ve solved all the world’s problems.
