Portfolio inspiration and 'how to stand out on video'
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
✨ Looking for some portfolio inspiration? Bobby Blanchard of The Texas Tribune put out a call on Twitter for some examples of audience/social portfolios. He got some solid replies from Adriana Lacy, Georgia Geen, Nora Smith and others.
💻 ‘How to stand out on video and boost LinkedIn presence’: Lorraine K. Lee, Editorial Director at Prezi, will host a free webinar on Thursday, June 24, with best practices for virtual meetings and events, ways to engage your audience and more.
🙌 More mentorship opportunities: ProPublica and Journalism Mentors are teaming up “to offer professional guidance to reporters who are either members of or attending conferences hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) or the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA).”
I also offer free career coaching sessions to women and journalists from backgrounds underrepresented in media. I’m happy to talk about searching for jobs, improving resumes and cover letters and career next steps in local news or audience engagement.
Thanks for reading!
Mandy
P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
📱 ‘Slack is rolling out a new scheduled send feature’: I’m excited about this new capability! I’ve been trying to write messages and leave them in drafts so this will help.
📧 ‘Our free time is evaporating’: The Washington Post is rolling out this new 7-day email course called A Better Week, “designed to help you make time for the things you care about.”
🐶 A smol doggo with a very large stick: Looks like this assistant branch manager needs a promotion. Keep up the great work!
