Navigating layoffs and a webinar for reporters on medical debt
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
đ âWhat if I get laid off?â I loved, loved Anne Helen Petersen and Phoebe Gavin in this episode of the Work Appropriate podcast. They take a daunting topic â layoffs â and make it so much easier to talk and think about by sharing personal experiences and action items to help folks plan, prepare and grow.

đˇ âHow medical debt crushes Americansâ: USC Annenbergâs Center for Health Journalism announced a webinar that âexamines the scope of medical debt and its crushing impact on individuals and whole communities. Reporters will gain a better understanding of this uniquely American problem and the push for solutions.â
The session is scheduled for June 27 at 1 p.m. ET and speakers come from the National Consumer Law Center, KFF Health News and the Sycamore Institute, according to an email.
đ§ âOur brains arenât wired to juggle tasksâ: Rachel Feintzeig wrote for The Wall Street Journal about âthe lies we tell ourselves about multitasking.â
+ Also from WSJ: âYour next big move should scare youâ

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
đ Have you ever seen goats eat whole tomatoes? Itâs the best.
đ§ My go-to white noise: Whether Iâm traveling and need to sleep or trying to calm a fussy baby, this YouTube clip thatâs 10 hours of fan noise does the trick.
đś Out of context dogs on Twitter: This account is slightly unhinged and pretty great at the same time.
