Maintaining professional networks and the impact of a Trump presidency on publishers
Good morning, skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
‘Connect with one old colleague or boss’: Ray A. Smith wrote for The Wall Street Journal about “a quick guide to rekindling a business relationship gone dormant — and why it’s important to do it.”
‘Will news publishers see another “Trump bump” in Trump’s second term?’ Sara Guaglione wrote for Digiday about traffic to news publishers going into this presidential election compared to four years ago. Guaglione also examined top news organizations’ total views on YouTube on and after Election Day and the impact of third party platforms such as TikTok.
“There are some signs that this go-around will be different,” Guaglione wrote. “And that may be due in large part to the different channels where people are getting their news.”
‘We need a Wirecutter for groceries’: Laura Hazard Owen wrote for Nieman Lab about an idea for local news outlets to help readers navigate the complex world of comparing food prices at grocery stores.
“Local news outlets cannot change grocery prices,” she wrote. “But they can help their readers deal with them — and, in doing so, perhaps increase their readership and draw in people who never would have read them otherwise.”
