Samantha Ragland wrote in Poynter’s Cohort newsletter about ways for leaders to improve their hiring practices, including making time for informational interviews with job candidates — short calls where hiring managers are the ones answering candidates’ questions.

🗣 ‘How to negotiate your current job’: Stephanie Vozza wrote for Fast Company about the steps to prepare for, frame, execute on and follow up about a negotiation in your current role.

👀 ‘Freelance writing opportunities hidden in LinkedIn posts’: Kaitlyn Arford shared some tips and a video showing freelancers how to easily search for and find opportunities on LinkedIn. (And if you find the tip valuable, you can buy Arford a virtual coffee.)

✂️ Tips for trimming lengthy stories: Karen K. Ho of Business Insider asked editors on Twitter how they cut back stories to hit their ideal word count. Respondents chimed in with everything from using active voice to removing adverbs to looking at work on mobile.

😮 ‘CNET is adding more than 150 new roles’: CNET’s Editor-in-Chief Connie Guglielmo tweeted, “We’re hiring 150 writers, editors, artists & thinkers to help build up our media org for the next gen & show the world #JournalismMatters.”
