Learn about business journalism, newsletter monetization and community engagement
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
💵 Is business journalism a good career choice for you? The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 3, featuring a panel of journalists from The New York Times, The Economist, NPR and Slate talking about their career paths, what they do, how much they earn and more.
📧 ‘How to create, grow & monetize newsletters’: The Knight Center is offering a free, four-week online course starting Feb. 22 that will teach the “fundamental skills required to launch and maintain a newsletter through a standard product life cycle and how a newsletter can fit into their work product and serve their audience.”
💻 ‘Share + learn about community engagement with KPCC and LAist’: The Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University is hosting an event on March 9 featuring KPCC and LAist’s Ashley Alvarado, who will speak about “the successes and challenges of the organization's community-centered programs.”
Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
😫 A new definition for how you’re feeling: Sarah Smith of the Houston Chronicle shared her definition of “pandemic fine,” which she describes as “a state of being in which you are employed and healthy during a pandemic but you’re also tired and depressed and feel like trash all the time.” This pretty accurately sums up life right now.
💯 ‘Nia Dennis’ floor routine is absolute 🔥’: The UCLA gymnast’s incredible routine featured music from Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé and more.
🍫 My stress-eating go to: I’ve gone through bags and bags of Ghirardelli’s 60% dark chocolate baking chips.
