📝 ‘How to get noticed by a job recruiter and beat the automated hiring systems’: Sonia Weiser interviewed Eric Rubin, a senior recruiter for news and sports at Warner Brothers, for a Reynolds Journalism Institute piece, digging into advice for resume building from the contents to formatting to the importance of a portfolio.
👀 Dealing with the fear of missing an assignment: Freelance writer and editor Emma Gibbs tweeted recently to ask other freelancers about how they handle out of office messages when they go on break. Gibbs received dozens of replies with different approaches.

📍 ‘Advanced data journalism: Powerful data reporting and mapping tools’: The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is hosting a Big Online Course (BOC) for $95 where students will “learn powerful skills to automate their data collection, allowing them to streamline their data reporting, update data maps, monitor online sources for scoops and make it easier to track and analyze data that changes over time.”
The course, led by John Keefe of The New York Times, starts August 21 and runs through September 17.
