Join the DEI Coalition Slack and how to improve your LinkedIn
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
đ Join the DEI Coalition Slack: OpenNews recently announced that the organization and âover 100 members of the journalism community have co-created a digital community space dedicated to sharing knowledge and taking concrete action in service of a more anti-racist, equitable and just journalism industry.â
Request to join the Slack, which includes private channels for staff and management roles.
đ» â5 things I learned as an AAPI engagement editor covering anti-Asian hateâ: Kristine Villanueva, now of Resolve Philly, described the hate she experienced in downtown Washington, D.C., at the start of the pandemic and shared advice for newsrooms.
âIf you want meaningful engagement, connections and nuanced storytelling, let journalists with lived experiences lead on all levels in the newsroom,â Villanueva wrote. âTheir perspectives are valuable to communities who need them.â
đ§Č âMake your LinkedIn magnetic for recruitersâ: Phoebe Gavin, a life and career coach who recently worked as the Editorial Director of Growth at Quartz, led a livestream workshop where she taught attendees how to âcraft a profile that shows up when recruiters search for candidates.â
âItâs important to think about what LinkedIn is. It is not just a social network. Itâs also a search engine,â she said.
You can request to join Gavinâs community here.

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
đ SNLâs âHot Ones with BeyoncĂ©â: In this sketch, Maya Rudolph reminds us all that she is and will always be a master.
đ Shout out to @NPRinterns: I have no idea who specifically is running this account, but they deserve some love for baking and sharing this âstructurally unsoundâ cake.
đ¶ He came in like a wrecking ball: I love Dean the Basset Hound, and his antics with his friend Chief.
Editorâs note
Hi all, I realized the other day that itâs been more than a year since Iâve taken any time off from this newsletter ( đ± ), and I could use a quick break! Iâm taking next Monday off, but Iâll be back the following week.
Thank you all again for your support over the years! If youâre a fan of my work, please consider a paid subscription. Youâll receive two additional subscriber-only emails a month for just $36/year (or about the cost of a cup of coffee each month).
