‘Alt-text is journalism' and a webinar on coverage of disability rights
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
📊 ‘When it comes to media credits and bylines, men still take the lion’s share’: Shraddha Chakradhar wrote for NiemanLab about a report from the Women’s Media Center that showed “men tended to report more than women, and overwhelmingly so at the wire outlets. The exceptions to this trend were CNN.com, HuffPost and Vox.”
🗞 ‘Pressing for disability rights’: The National Center on Disability and Journalism and the Harvard Law School Project on Disability are hosting a webinar on “how advocates can work with journalists to promote disability rights and also the opportunities and challenges that journalists face when covering disability rights issues.”
The webinar is slated for Tuesday, November 9, at 2 p.m. ET and speakers include journalists from NPR, The New York Times and more.
📱 ‘Alt-text is journalism: Enhancing your reporting with accessibility’: Hannah Wise, who works for McClatchy and serves as a Reynolds Journalism Institute fellow, wrote for RJI about how “learning to write alt-text can deepen your reporting and improve how you tell stories online.”

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
♥️ LAT’s Día de Muertos interactive: The Los Angeles Times built a thoughtful communal altar online and LAT wrote that readers submitted more than 1,000 ofrendas. What emerged was a really lovely community project.
📺 ‘Me, I want uppies!’: Kieran Culkin was on SNL this weekend, and the “Succession” star did not disappoint.
