“Candidates of color right now have more power than ever before, I think. I’m seeing candidates of color realize that after sometimes years or decades of their ideas being dismissed and reclaimed by others, or being undervalued and mistreated, they have the confidence and security to leave,” Kohli said. “I also see that these candidates want to do important work that impacts the communities they care about while offering them a high quality of life.”

@petrinkae Power in silence. Let people finish their thoughts and sentences. Even thru crying or big giant gaps. If your question is really long it is usually a bad question and you’re just feeling your way. Tight Q=better prepped.

@petrinkae I’ve gotten some great responses at the very end of a long interview by simply asking “is there anything else that you’d like to say before we finish this interview?” Lot of people have given some heartfelt responses especially if they’re passionate about the topic.

@petrinkae Pen ink freezes, so bring a pencil too. If your source is jargon-heavy, ask them to explain it to you as if you were an alien. This will result in more conversational quotes. Don't write out all of your qs in advance - they will distract you from listening carefully.
