🤖 ‘Writing guidelines for the role of AI in your newsroom?’ NiemanLab recently published a piece analyzing 21 newsrooms’ policies and best practices around AI and news production, including human oversight of AI, labeling of content created by AI and what AI use cases are not permitted.
🌎 What’s happening in the world of news? Last week seemed especially jam packed when it came to acquisitions, product launches and more across the country. Here’s just a few headlines that stood out to me:
NiemanLab: “The Athletic finally shut down a newspaper’s sports desk — just not the one people expected”
Advance Local press release via Editor & Publisher: “Advance Local will expand into Texas to cover news, sports and culture”
The San Diego Union-Tribune: “The San Diego Union-Tribune sold to Alden Global Capital”
Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
🤰 ‘Pregnant? Here’s how to deal with the new you’: If you or someone you know is pregnant, this comic from NPR Life Kit can help you better understand how pregnancy impacts the brain and your sense of self.
🦦 ‘She steals surfboards by the seashore’: Whoever wrote the genius headline on this NYT article about a thieving sea otter deserves a raise.
🐶 Happy anniversary to these good boys and girls: The AP shared video of hundreds of golden retrievers gathered in Scotland.

Send me your feedback and your job openings!
I'd love to hear from you with any questions, feedback or job openings you might have. Hit me up at mandy.hofmockel@gmail.com.
Hi! Thank you so much for your work, Mandy. I wonder if you've ever considered listing the openings by category or alphabetical order -- or any order that does not prioritize "coastal jobs" (ie NY, DC, California). The way your newsletter is currently organized seems to perpetuate the idea that jobs in these areas are better and more desirable in some way than other parts of the country. As a long-time journalist (as well an an journalism educator and hiring manager), I've seen so many early to mid-career folks bypass excellent opportunities in affordable cities only to find themselves in career ruts and facing economic stress because they believe they should be in the biggest market possible.
I am interested in hearing your thoughts!
