Salary transparency coming in NYC and networking advice
Happy Monday! Skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.
🏙 ‘What’s the salary? NYC Job seekers can no longer be kept in the dark’: The New York Times published a story saying, “a new city law going into effect on Tuesday will require companies with at least four employees to post salary ranges for openings, even if the jobs involve remote or hybrid work.”
📝 ‘How to make networking events less awkward’: Andee Tagle and Sylvie Douglis wrote for NPR’s Life Kit about advice from author Robbie Samuels on networking, including “find[ing] creative ways to stay in touch,” “show[ing] your network that you’re valuable” and “creat[ing] a plan of action before a networking event.”
👀 ‘If a freelance job seems fishy, it probably is’: Freelance writer Kaitlyn Arford shared on Twitter a series of possible red flags she says could indicate a freelance job posting may be a scam.

P.S. Here are a few things that fueled this newsletter/me this week:
🎃 David S. Pumpkins is back: Tom Hanks reprised the fantastic character on SNL’s Halloween episode. Also I got a kick out of the show’s totally absurd Joker wedding sketch.
🐘 Elephant eats nearly 551 pounds of pumpkin: An Asian elephant at the Denver Zoo also got into the Halloween spirit.
🐶 ‘We only rate dogs’: WeRateDogs tweeted, “This is a tiny kangaroo going through a goth phase. Please only send dogs.” You just gotta check this cutie out.
