With Election Day a few short months away, now’s the time to start preparing to cover national, state and local races across the country.
Multiple news outlets and journalism-adjacent organizations are helping journalists gear up for the task with webinars and mentorship opportunities. There’s also some excellent resource pages out there to help build voters guides, keep tabs on when polls close and more.
American Press Institute / Associated Press
The American Press Institute and Associated Press are partnering to bring journalists a free webinar focused on “retaining and engaging audiences post-election,” according to the event description. The session features speakers from AP, API and Louisville Public Media and is scheduled for July 25 at 1 p.m.
This series of webinars from AP and API will continue in August with a panel on “mental health and election reporting” and September with a session on “pulling back the curtain on what happens on election night,” according to API.

Investigative Reporters & Editors members can sign up for a webinar today at 2 p.m. ET “focusing on communities and solutions in the 2024 election coverage,” according to the organization. Speakers come from the Solutions Journalism Network, The 19th, WITF and more.
