A big thank you goes out to Jordan Gass-Poore', an audio producer at CNN, for her thoughtful answers to a few questions about what it’s like to work in audio at the international news organization.
What advice would you share with those who aspire to work for CNN’s Audio team?
My advice for those who aspire to work for CNN’s audio team is to not be afraid to ask questions and to ask for help. The best way to get to know your teammates is to schedule a date to ask them questions about workflow, best contacts for other departments, and the things they wish they knew their first month on the job.
Also, try not to underestimate your Pro Tools abilities and don’t let that stop you from applying for a role with the CNN Audio team. I believe if you know how to edit in one DAW, you can edit in Pro Tools.
How can candidates make their applications stand out?
Candidates can make their applications stand out by reading the job description thoroughly and matching their work history with the skills and responsibilities listed. Even if you’ve never worked professionally on a podcast but you’ve created your own – include that in your cover letter and resume, outlining the audio editing software you use and the details about your role with the show.
What is it like to work for CNN’s Audio team?
Working for CNN’s audio team has taught me to advocate for myself and to not be afraid to ask questions. Even though I haven’t met any of my teammates, I know they have my back and want to see me succeed, just like I want to see them succeed. Our lives would be way more stressful without one another.
